It was January 18, 2015 and we had just booked the last leg of our five month trip around the world. It was real. We were going. Or we just ate $9k…so scratch that, we were definitely going. After months of thought, booking our flights was quick and painless because of Flightfox (for more on Flightfox, check out this post here). Next on the list – packing. Not just clothes packing, but five months of toiletries, first-aide equipment and camera equipment. With that said, today’s post will focus on the camera equipment we chose to pack from our five month trip around the world.
So here is what we brought and our top 10 photography equipment essentials for a five month trip:
- Canon 6D + Charger
- Three lenses:
- GoPro HERO3: Silver Edition
- Tiffen circular polarizer (Amazon makes much cheaper, but well-reviewed, versions as well)
- Cromofilter graduated neutral density filters (discontinued, so can buy used or find similar here)
- Gaffer tape
All fit nicely in our number 10 essential – Lowepro Micro Trekker 100 Camera Backpack.
Each piece of equipment found its way into our travel photos, but our most commonly used lens was the 24-70mm lens. It was definitely the heaviest lens option but it gave us the most flexibility when we did not want to carry the entire backpack. If we could do it again, I wish we would have bought a newer version of the GoPro. The battery on our GoPro did not last long enough but it did the job, as long as we remembered to charge it nightly.
Overall, the photography equipment that we packed for our five month trip was perfect and exactly what we needed.
