Nothing screams, “I live in California!” more than going to the beach during the winter months #amiright (or am I just annoying?). Well, regardless of your stance on a California winter, meandering our way down the two blocks from my parents house to the beach has become a family tradition when I am home.
I love this tradition for many reasons, but my favorite has to be because we are visiting a place so familiar to me. I grew up in the same house my parents still live in, and I remember spending everyday of every summer running down to the beach, boogieboard in hand (are they even still called that?), covered in SPF 50, ready to spend the next 12 hours digging a hole or riding the waves to the shore. I love seeing the picturesque lifeguard towers that have seen so much over the years, but mostly I love that going to the beach at sunset is something my entire family does together. This time was even more special because it was my Dad’s birthday. So we got a little dressed up, watched the sunset and then went out to dinner to celebrate.
Happy birthday Dad!
