Organizing and planning every detail of a five month adventure is just unrealistic and to an extent limiting. Had we stuck to our original plan, when returning from the Galapagos Islands, we would have gone straight to Quito and missed out on the wonderful surprise of Papallacta, Ecuador. What a shame that would have been. So if you are a natural planner like me, just, “let it go, let it go, can’t hold it back anymore” and see where the adventure takes you. Luckily for us, it led us straight to thermal hot spring relaxation!
Papallacta is nestled in the hills of the Andes Mountains over 10,000 feet above sea level, and famous for their restorative hot springs (but I am sure you already figured that out!) and delicious trout. We chose to spend our time at Termas de Papallacta Spa & Resort, a beautiful and serene Spanish style hotel. Entrance to the hot springs spa is $22. A little on the pricy side, considering how affordable everything in the surrounding area is, but still worth every penny. There are hot springs everywhere within Papallacta, so if you are looking for something slightly less expensive, there are plenty of options.
Below are a few snapshots from our explorations of Papallacta outside of the beautiful hot springs.
About two hours outside of Quito, Papallacta is a must see oasis when visiting Ecuador. We loved lounging around the hot springs, reading our kindles, and taking in the absolutely stunning scenery. The contrast of lush landscape with the blue steamy hot springs is one you should not miss. Oh, and do not forget your suncreen…Ryan and I are sitting here red as tomatoes because we underestimated the cloud coverage. Womp. Womp.
We are currently in Santiago, Chile, follow along here!
PS: Ada, graciously included me in her birthday post here.
