Everyone knows about the Alamo Square Painted Ladies, but I am not sure many know about the beautiful Waller Street Painted Ladies. Did you know that “Painted Ladies” is an architectural term used to describe Victorian and Edwardian homes? I did not! I had been under the impression it was a unique name for the Alamo Square ladies, I had no idea it was a well known architectural descriptor! Anyways, the Waller Street Ladies are absolutely stunning. The colors are so vibrant and the details so ornate.

After months of admiration, I noticed one day while walking home from the “N” that one of the houses had had recent fire damage. I was disheartened to think such a historic home was destroyed and a family displaced. As the months progressed, I started to see the renovations take hold, and the home now sparkles that it probably did in its heyday! If you get a chance to visit San Francisco, promise me you will take a look at these homes!

  1. I had no idea painted ladies was a phrase. Like you, I thought it just referred to the Alamo Square ones. San Fran is such a gorgeous city. I hope to make it back there one day. I love your braid too. I’m trying so hard to let my hair grow out so I can braid it again.

    • Hi Meghan! I know! I had no idea! I was an art history minor in college, so its a shame I somehow missed learning that phrase! I hope you make it to SF again. If you do, let me know, and I can give you a list a mile long of things to do, places to see and things to eat! I love SF!

    • Nothing to be embarrassed about! You live so far away! I am glad you were able to take a desktop journey to SF this morning and visit the Painted Ladies :)

    • You totally should! Pink Blush has the best prices, so affordable! Also SF thanks you for your kind comments about the city’s beauty. Good thing I am a small blog and there are not too many NYC’ers reading this, otherwise we might have started an uproar 😉

  2. Chelsea I didn’t know it was a phrase either – I’ve been to SF and thought the ones in Steiner Street were THE ones…! Though what I’d give to have those houses as backdrops in my photo shoots – let alone actually live in one – ain’t nobody’s business!!!!

Your jacket is the bomb btw, and of course then there’s the studs… absolutely stunning. =sigh=

Hope you’re well sweetie! Much love to you :)

    • Hi Catherine,

Well I am glad I could share my new architectural knowledge with you :) I have been so curious about it looks like inside the homes! One day I will see the inside of one! However, I think your backdrops are also stunning. I love how lush and green it is around you!

Also thank you for the sweet compliment!

  3. Your sweater jacket and braid are simply gorgeous. San Francisco is one of my most favorite cities in the world. I bet those homes are gorgeous.

Have a great weekend pretty Ginger!

    • Thank you Ada! I remember when I first moved here I was so excited to find the house that was used in the filming of the TV show, “Charmed.” I remember thinking, “this is one of the first things I must do when I move to SF.” Well, that beauty of a home is actually in LA area, so in the Bay. So at least we know there are beautiful Victorians all around!

    • Thank you Alena! The shoes really are comfortable too! If you are in the market for a new pair of shoes, you definitely should grab these gals!

    • Hi Lauren! Gosh, I am jealous you live in Glasgow! Visiting Scotland is on the top of my “must visit” list because I am obsessed with the Outlander book series…idk if true Scottish people find the book annoying but I love it!

      • I’m not familiar with the book but imagine it has a Braveheart view of scotland. It’s funny cause we do still have the gorgeous countryside but mostly everyone lives in big cities like the rest of the world lol

        • Oh you havent read Outlander!!! I am so jealous you havent read the books because I thoroughly enjoy them and wish I could re-read them not knowing what was going to happen! You must read it! The series is historical fiction and based in the Scottish Highlands in the 1800s. It was just turned into a TV show and all the actors are gorgeous (makes watching the show that much more fun, right?!?)!
