Before Chicago, Ryan and I house sat for his uncle in SOMA (south of Market Avenue). It was a stay-cation of sorts, and we had the best time exploring a completely different part of the city. SOMA is such a busy part of the city on the weekdays, with the traffic going across the bridge to Oakland/Berkeley, construction on every corner and commuters speed walking to work but on the weekends, it has a serene quality of emptiness that I feel like only neighborhood locals get to experience. I have loved staying in SOMA, something I never thought I would say. It also makes my work commute nonexistent, so I can wear whatever shoes I desire since I do not have to walk too far.
