May 25th was the 98th running of the Indy 500 and Ryan and I were lucky enough to get a coveted invite to the race with our good friend Andrew’s family. Having never experienced race culture, I had to scramble to figure out what to wear and learn the basics of the race. So, here is what I learned. Crop tops, totally acceptable. The cars drive 500 miles, not laps (200). Sun burns are a must. There were 33 drivers. How to sing “Back Home Again Indiana.” Red, Yellow, Green, Checkered Flags mean the same thing they do on the road, Red-Stop, occurs when an accident takes longer to clean up, Yellow-Slow down, clean up an accident but cars slow down and stay in order, Green-GO, Checkered, YOU WON! Indy releases balloons to signify the start of the race. Lastly, SPF50+ is MY best friend.
